Privacy Policy

Last Updated: August 2026

Aikona App ("we", "us", or "our") is a parental-control and digital-wellbeing app committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why, who it is shared with, and how you can control it, when you use our mobile application and web dashboard.

1. Data We Collect and Why

We collect the following types of data. Data marked "shared" is transferred to the Accountability Partner you designate; all other data is transmitted only to our secure Google Firebase backend.

2. Accessibility Service

Aikona's core content-blocking features are powered by the Android Accessibility Service. We use it only to: (a) detect when a restricted app is opened, so it can be blocked; (b) read website addresses and search terms so harmful, gambling, or age-restricted content can be blocked; and (c) prevent the app or its protection settings from being disabled, changed, or uninstalled without the parent/guardian's PIN. The anti-tampering function is used only as permitted for parental-control apps and is authorized by the parent or guardian who controls Aikona. We do not use the Accessibility Service to collect data for advertising, to record calls, or for any purpose unrelated to content filtering and device protection. You can turn the Accessibility Service off at any time in your device Settings.

3. On-Device VPN (Content Filter)

Aikona uses Android's VpnService to run an on-device content filter that blocks harmful and age-restricted websites. This is a local filter: it does not route, tunnel, or proxy your internet traffic through any external or remote server, and it does not collect or transmit the contents of your browsing. It works entirely on the device by inspecting DNS (domain-name) lookups and blocking restricted sites, and it runs only while protection is enabled.

4. How Your Data Is Shared

We do not sell or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes or for advertising. Your data is shared only in these ways:

5. Data Security & Retention

Your data is stored in Google Firebase and all communications are encrypted in transit (SSL/TLS). We retain your account and activity data for as long as your account is active. Crash and diagnostic logs held by Firebase auto-expire within the provider's standard retention window (up to 90 days).

6. Data Deletion & Your Choices

You can request deletion of some or all of your data at any time:

We complete email requests within 7 business days. Full details are on our Data Deletion page.

7. Children's Privacy

Aikona is a parental-control tool intended to be set up and controlled by a parent or guardian. Where a protected device is used by a minor, the parent or guardian is responsible for configuring the app and consenting to the collection described here on the minor's behalf.
